Ongoing projects/programmes
1. Alternative Energy Promotion Center/Energy Sector Assistance Programme - AEPC/ESAPRESDTN has been contributing on alternative energy sector as a Regional Renewable Energy Service Center (RRESC) since September 2007 in selected nine districts which are Tanahun, Lamjung, Gorkha, Nawalparasi, Dhading, Makawanpur, Manang, Rasuwa & Nuwakot. AEPC/ESAP has been supporting to this programme. Its major aim is to improve livelihood of rural communities through proper use of alternative energies which is efficient, environment-friendly and socially justifiable. RRESC works in coordination with DDC/VDC/REDS/DEEU, line agencies, I/NGO/CBOs, political parties and other related stakeholders.
The major components are:
- Mini-Grid Rural Electrification
- Biomass Energy Support Programme
- Institutional Strengthening of the Rural Energy Sector (ISRES)
- Rural Energy Investment/Rural Energy Fund (REF)
As a RRESC the organization has been disseminating the information on renewable energy technology at the grassroots level. Its activities are focus on:
- Demand and awareness creation for micro hydro projects, improved cook stove, metal stove and other kinds of stoves.
- Coordination with DDC/VDC/REDS/DEEU, line agencies, I/NGO/CBOs, political parties and other related stakeholders for the implementation of renewable energy.
- Social Mobilization and technical monitoring & support in implementing Micro hydro projects.
- Implementation of small enterprises (end uses) in micro hydropower projects.
- Create opportunities to involve community people in socio-economic activities
RESDTN is working with Heifer Project International Nepal (HPI/N) since Jan 2010 in Tanahun District. This project is implemented in Change and Manapang VDC of Tanahun District. This project works with the principle of Value based Community Development through empowering women in the sector of awareness, health and income generating activities by forming capable groups. The “12 Heifer Cornerstone” are used in awareness creation and social mobilization.
3. Rural Energy Development Programme (REDP) RESDTN is actively involving in the part of community mobilization for the effective implementation of DDC/REDS activities within the Tanahun district since 1997. This programme is focus on to improve the livelihood of rural people through the sustainable rural energy system. The community mobilization is based on the principle of institutional development, capital formation, skill enhancement, women empowerment, technology promotion and environmental management. It has been implemented in 11 VDCs of Tanahun district. DDC.REDP has been providing the technical and financial support. Under this programme, total number of 14 Micro-hydro Schemes, 611 Solar Energy Home Systems, 1006 bio-gas plants and 777 Improved Cooking Stove have been completed.
- Working as a lead organization to strengthen district level Tobacco Control Network for the health rights in Coordinating with district level NGOs/civil society and concern line agencies at the district level.
